To a wonderful Veteran....

I just wanted to dedicate a post to my Grandpa Roy Speechly. He was in the Navy during WWII. During his service he was on an aircraft carrier, and saved many men on his ship. I am so proud to say that he was and still is a war hero. While out on the Pacific Ocean somewhere his ship was hit by a kamakazie airplane. Many of the young men jumped ship. Grandpa new that this was extreme, he stopped many men from jumping, he said that they'd have a better chance of staying on the ship, if they jumped they'd break their neck and either be paralyzed or die upon impact. They listened to him and this saved their lives. They made it out okay, my Grandpa new the ship had flood areas where the ship could fill up with water, but not sink. He was a very popular man on his ship prior to the attack. He had the privilge of running the movies. This awarded him his very own room with a cot. The men loved him for running the movies. My Grandma waited and wrote to him every day. What a hard life to be without your husband or your wife. He doesn't talk about his service very much, but a few things have come out over the years, which makes us all very proud. My Grandpa is now 91 yrs. old and still kicking! He may not get out fishing and golfing like he used to, but he still thinks of those as his favorite past time. Grandpa was a very successful insurance agent and made many friends and did very good to our family name. He is such a wonderful father to my dad and his siblings as well as a wonderful Grandpa. He is so generous and loving, and I always like to think that I am his favorite Grandchild! I am so lucky, because a live very close to him and my Grandma.
I just want to say thank you to all of the service men and women out there fighting for our country, and to the retiries also! You make our freedom possible!
